Tax season is just around the corner and we are recruiting volunteers to prepare tax returns for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations such as our credit union.
One hour of volunteerism at a VITA site could bring over $5,000 to a Montana family! As a VITA volunteer you get to work one-on-one with community members to prepare their tax returns and help them get the refunds they deserve. No professional experience is needed to become a VITA volunteer because all volunteers receive comprehensive IRS tax training.
Tax season begins in February and lasts through April. Volunteers choose their schedule during the tax season and can commit to as little as four hours per week.
This is your chance to:
- Get out of the house this winter
- Meet new people
- Learn how to prepare a tax return
- Help community members
- And, get more involved with our credit union!
