Debit Card FAQs
What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?
You can block your card in online banking under “settings” then “cards” or call us at 406.651.AFCU (2328).
Will my card still work when I travel?
Yes! Start a conversation with us in our mobile banking app to schedule travel on your cards for uninterrupted service, or contact us at 406.651.AFCU (2328).
Due to fraudulent activity, we’ve blocked debit card usage in Mexico, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Nevada for transactions that are below $50. If you’re traveling to one of these places, please contact us so you don’t experience any problems using your debit card.
What are the limits on my debit card?
For security, transactions are limited to $6,050 per day and ATM withdrawals are limited to $1,050 per day.
What ATMs are free?
Co-op ATMs are free of charge as well as any Altana ATM. You may use your card at any ATM, but there may be fees.
Are debit cards safe and protected from fraud?
Debit cards are considered safe with certain protections in place, but they are not entirely immune to fraud. They often offer fraud protection policies where you’re not liable for unauthorized transactions if reported promptly. Using a PIN, EMV chip technology, and monitoring for unusual activity enhance security. However, vigilance against phishing, skimming, and prompt reporting of lost or stolen cards are crucial for minimizing risks.
How do debit cards work?
Debit cards allow you to access funds directly from your checking account. When you make a purchase or withdraw cash using a debit card, the amount is deducted from your account balance immediately. They can be used at ATMs, in stores, at gas pumps and online, offering a convenient and secure way to manage your money without relying on cash.
Are debit cards better than cash?
Debit cards offer convenience and security over cash. They allow easy access to funds from a checking account for purchases and withdrawals without the need to carry physical money, and provide transaction records for budgeting and tracking expenses.
