Since 1949, Altana has been guided by the dedication and service of volunteer board members who generously give their time, expertise, and passion to help shape our credit union. Their leadership plays a vital role in ensuring we continue to serve our members and communities with integrity and purpose.
We’re grateful for the individuals who help carry our mission forward, and we’re excited to introduce you to one of them. Meet Rick Brown, Associate Board Director from Havre!
Where did you grow up?
Born in Havre, MT, currently living in Havre, MT!
Tell us about your career:
My first job out of college was as a loan officer at Wells Fargo Financial in Kalispell, MT, in 2004. In 2005, I became a senior loan officer and assistant branch manager. In 2007, I became the branch manager in Kalispell, and I left Wells Fargo to pursue a career with D.A. Davidson in 2010, back in Havre. In 2010, I became a registered financial advisor. I have been with DA Davidson for the past 16 years and am currently a Senior Vice President at the firm.
Why did you join the volunteer board at Altana?
I have had a lifelong friendship with Mike Kellem. When he approached me about it, I was interested in how a credit union functions in comparison to a national bank. I wanted to learn more about how Credit Unions work and, hopefully, contribute to the board with my financial experience.
What’s something people wouldn’t guess about you?
I was ranked in the top 25 in the US as a racquetball player in the 18 & under age group when I was 17 & 18 years old. In both my junior and senior years, I won state and regional titles. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to go to Nationals because it always conflicted with High School Basketball.
What do you enjoy outside of work (hobbies, interests, etc.):
Hunting, Fishing, Golfing, and Traveling!
What’s your philosophy on life?
Be kind, and all will be good!
What’s your earliest memory of a credit union?:
The first credit union I remember was Bear Paw Credit Union here in Havre when I was a kid. I remember thinking that Credit Unions were for people with a lot of money and banks were for people with not so much money😊. I would guess I was around 10 years old.
What’s the best money advice you’ve ever received?
Money you never see is money you will never miss. Be a saver, not a spender; you will not regret it!
One thing you hope to contribute or learn through this board (or Supervisory Committee) experience:
I just hope I can offer the board some valuable insights based on my career experience. Also, more than happy to help with tasks the board needs to complete to meet their duty.
Rick, thank you for your willingness to serve as an Associate Board Director. We appreciate the time and perspective you bring to the role and look forward to the contributions you’ll make as you begin your board service. We’re grateful to have you as part of the Altana team and excited to work alongside you in support of our members and communities!
