As we celebrate Altana’s 75th anniversary, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing volunteer board of directors. Their dedication and commitment have been instrumental in shaping our credit union into what it is today. We’re excited to introduce you to each volunteer board member to mark this special milestone. Meet Bill Pedersen!
Can you share a bit about your upbringing and how it shaped who you are today?
I was raised in the small town of Joliet, where being outdoors and enjoying the simple things was the norm. My first taste of work was alongside my father, learning the ropes of construction – I became a real jack of all trades! I then worked for ExxonMobil, retiring after 34 years. Those early experiences instilled in me the values of hard work and lending a hand to others, lessons I hold dear to this day.
What’s your philosophy on life, and how does it align with the credit union’s values?
Life is a precious gift, and I believe in making the most of it by being a good neighbor and offering help whenever possible. This philosophy resonates deeply with the credit union’s ethos of “people helping people.” It’s about community, support, and making a positive impact wherever possible.
Bill, you’re the Chairman of Altana’s Volunteer Board of Directors! Tell us a bit about your journey with Altana F.C.U. and your role on the board.
I’ve been serving on the board of Altana F.C.U. for 40 years, and it’s been a rewarding journey! As Chairman, I have the privilege of delving into the numbers, connecting with fellow board members, and witnessing firsthand the invaluable assistance our credit union provides its members. It’s truly fulfilling to be a part of this community-driven organization.
What changes have you witnessed over your four decades of service, and what financial advice would you offer based on your experience?
The changes have been plentiful over the years; it’s hard to name them all! As for advice, I’d say making sound investment decisions, investing regularly, and practicing patience are key. Good financial stewardship paves the way for a brighter future.
Lastly, tell us about your family and what you enjoy doing in your free time.
Of course. I met my wonderful wife, Janis, on a blind date, and we’ve been happily married since 1972, raising two incredible children along the way. In my free time, you’ll often find me casting a line while fishing, perfecting my swing on the golf course, or tinkering with various projects. It’s the simple joys that make life truly fulfilling.
Bill, we extend our deepest gratitude for your remarkable dedication and service on our volunteer board for 40 years! Your leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in guiding our credit union and positively impacting our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to have you on our team!
