As we celebrate Altana’s 75th anniversary, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing volunteer board of directors. Their dedication and commitment have been instrumental in shaping our credit union into what it is today. To mark this special milestone, we’re excited to introduce you to each volunteer board member. Meet Mary Reiter!
Tell us about your background. Where are you from, and what was your career path?
I was born in Glasgow, MT, and lived in Missoula and Mammoth before settling in Billings with my three siblings. I graduated from MSU-Billings with a degree in Business Education and have worked as an academic advisor at both MSU-Billings and Rocky Mountain College. My last position before retiring was the director of a student support services program at R.M.C.
What is your philosophy on life?
My favorite quote is, “Help inspire others to achieve their goals.” This has always guided me, whether I was working with college students to help them succeed or serving our credit union members in achieving their financial goals.
If you had extra money, how would you spend it?
I would spend it on more traveling!
What is the best financial advice for your younger self?
Start saving early, make a budget, and stick with it.
How long have you served on the Altana F.C.U. board, and what impact has the credit union had?
I’ve served on the Altana F.C.U. board for 27 years. I’ve witnessed the most significant impact through our financial education initiatives for students and adults, staff volunteering, and numerous community service projects like “Relay for Life.”
Can you share a fun fact about the first Altana loan and your first loan?
The first Altana loan was given for a sewing machine. My first loan was for a car.
How do you spend your spare time?
I love to camp, boat, and attend my grandkids’ activities in my spare time with my husband, Doug, and our children and grandchildren. I also enjoy playing pickleball, biking, quilting, volunteering, and spending time with family.
Mary, thank you for your remarkable 27 years of service on our volunteer board. Your dedication to education, community service, and inspiring others has made a lasting impact on our members and the community. We deeply appreciate your commitment and the positive difference you’ve made!
