As we celebrate Altana’s 75th anniversary, we express our heartfelt gratitude to our volunteer board of directors. Their dedication and commitment have been instrumental in shaping our credit union into what it is today. We’re excited to introduce you to each volunteer board member to mark this special milestone. Meet Sam!

What’s your philosophy on life?

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” A decision with good intentions can have a different outcome than you wanted, but you must keep on going.

What was your first passion growing up?

Working on the farm was my first passion.

What do you do now?

I own a successful landscaping business in Laurel, Montana, serving customers’ sprinkler and landscaping needs.

How long have you served on the Altana F.C.U. Board?

I’ve been serving on the board for 14 years.

What do you appreciate about Altana’s history?

Reflecting on the past 75 years since 9 Montana refinery workers pooled their money in a cigar box in an empty boxcar, my favorite part of this unique beginning is the cooperative spirit and people helping each other.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

My wife Sharon and I enjoy spending time with our family and friends and exploring hidden treasures in Montana. I also have a passion for researching and restoring Old International Harvester vehicles.

What values do you instill in your children?

I’ve strived to instill a solid work ethic in each of my four kids, and they’ve learned this through helping with my landscaping business.

What’s your financial philosophy?

“It’s not how much money you earn; it’s what you do with what you earn and how much you can give back.” This statement reflects the lesson of making conscious fiscal decisions and aligns with Altana’s mission of earning, saving, and giving back to the community.

Sam, we appreciate your 14 years of service on our volunteer board of directors. Your dedication and insights, rooted in a rich history of hard work and community values, have contributed significantly to Altana’s success and the well-being of our members. Thank you for your unwavering commitment and the positive influence you’ve had on our organization.
